Hello hello! It has been a year since we wrote a blog about our new jobs.
After a year at our last job, we decided it was time to switch it up again.
GF
The reason why I want to leave my current job is because of the workload and the lack of communication from management. The team is heavily understaffed with horrible organization structure. For such a major company and high dollar contract/client, we lack standard operating procedures.
In the first couple of months, I was fairly confused about the work structure and was not sure if certain tasks fall under my responsibility or not. Eventually, I got better at work-life balance and learned to say no to tasks beyond my regular portfolio. (I didn’t have the time or energy to write any post for this blog since I started that job 🙁 )
It took about 4 months between the time the employees had to do their performance evaluation to the time we received feedback for the evaluation and our raise. I received a raise of 1.5%, with the reason that it would have been 3%, but since I joined in the middle of the year, I received the prorated rate 🙂
I double-checked with my colleagues who joined the same time I did, and they also received the same raise.
For the pros of the job, I liked the plethora of opportunities that the role exposed me to. I learned to do the job of at least 5 other people and covered a wide spectrum of tasks from finance to shipping logistics to HR management. Those are valuable transferable skills that I’m glad to have picked up.
The new offer I received will be in the same industry with similar duties, but hopefully with better work-life balance and structural organization. The biggest perks are the 32% raise compared to my current salary, sick days in addition to regular PTO, and international business travel up to 25%!
BF
The BF is also switching to a different job to spice it up.
He is getting complacent due to the lack of communication from his team and the multiple revisions he had to do for each project because none of the decision makers are communicating with each other.
There is also less flexibility in the projects he can work on and the growth of his role.
He also works for a major company with a lot of bureaucracy. For example, it takes a lot of asking and a lot of time for management to decide if he can take PTO over the summer or not. He asked for PTO approval in December, and by April, we still haven’t heard back from his management.
This will be our 3rd job in 3 years since we’ve graduated from college 🙂 It is indeed the quickest way for job growth and better raise.
Hopefully 3rd time’s the charm. We’ll keep you guys updated 😀
xoxo.
